Ponmudi

Now that you have enjoyed the beaches, let us go to Ponmudi, the hill station of Trivandrum? Well, the beaches are walking distance from Sunday B&B. Hills are a little farther- but not too far…Ponmudi, (literally means the golden peak) is around 65 kms from Sunday B&B. Barely two and a half hours by road,it is a favorite picnic spot of the district, largely un-spoilt by large influx of tourists. The eastern mountainous region of Kerala is part of Western Ghats, a mountain range running along the west of India. These misty mountain slopes are famous for the spices, tea and varied wild life. Nestled in these hills is Ponmudi, a tranquil hill station of Trivandrum. Many a dainty brook originates here. There are many trek routes starting here.

As you leave Trivandrum city for Ponmudi, the quaint beauty of Kerala countryside offers you a visual treat. Rubber and coconut plantations are plenty along the way. At places you see people using part of the road to dry coconut kernels or black pepper. You might catch glimpses of an ambling elephant or a cow.

On the way is Kallar, a place through which the river ‘Kallar’ flows. This river is famous for the round and beautiful stones and pebbles. Don’t forget to pick a few for yourself.
